What is meant by "Letter height"?When ordering lettering the ordered letter height shall apply to the space defined by the top of the tallest letter to the bottom of the lowest letter. For example, the following graphic shows the name "Stephanie" ordered in 4 inch lettering. |

We chose the name "Stephanie" to illustrate a particular point. Due to the combination of letters in "Stephanie", the total lettering height is 4" while the tallest individual letter is only 3.2". It might seem strange that sometimes (depending on font and letter combinations) none of the individual letters in a given order are the ordered letter height. However this method of measurement comes with an important advantage; you will always know exactly how much vertical wall space your word or phrase will occupy. This method of measurement enables you to plan where your lettering will go with confidence and precision. Because this height predictability is so important, all major lettering companies today determine letter height from the top of the tallest letter to the bottom of the lowest letter. |
